Tyne Bridge - Sydney Harbour Bridge
Mosh Started conversation Apr 13, 2000
I'd just like to correct a popular misconception regarding the two bridges, and which is mentioned in the article. The Tyne Bridge was *not* (unfortunately) a "dry run" for the Sydney Harbour bridge.
This subject's been discussed in some detail on uk.local.geordie, and although my memory fails me to the details, I believe that the Sydney Bridge had it's foundations laid first, but was finished second. The designs, I think, are just coincidence, although there may have been some sharing of ideas.
Oh, and can I plug my page on the Toon? www.moshpit.force9.co.uk and follow the link
