Just a wee correction, most bars in Edinburgh open 'till 1 am, as do many bars across Scotland. Some in Edinburgh have even longer opening ours (5am-11pm or 7am-11pm). In contrast very few bars in glasgow open until 1 am, most shut at 11 (with no drink up time), a few until 12. Those that are open later tend to be only in the city centre and also have club licences. In fact the law in Scotland could allow "24 hr" opening (although each pub must shut for 6 hrs a day) but it local licencing boards that dictate opening hours and most do not alllow such lienient opening hours.
