I visited Sambo's grave this weekend, it was difficult standing there trying to imagine what went on in days of yore. How this poor boy must felt coming to this foreign country. The children and people of the area are keeping his memory alive, after all this time, it was really quite touching.

Yes, I'd wanted to visit the site for a while, since reading about it in a Secret Britain book. I had the opportunity last summer when I was on holiday in the area. I found it a very thought-provoking memorial - it was so simple, yet the poem inscribed upon the grave is as powerful as anything else I've read.
If you get the chance, then the Maritime Museum at Lancaster is worth a visit - it has everything you need to know about the slave trade in the area.
