Compared to lager, mead is positively hygenic.
Modern day lager has so many chemicals in it, you might as well drink a school science project. Sad but true.
Alas though but mead is not the oldest drink known to man. The nomads of the Euphrates settled down so that they could grow wheat for beer. Later on that race became the Egyptians. Beer is a little older than the honey stuff.
True about the Honey Moon. The period of a moon from the day of the wedding, when the Bride and Groom were to drink no other alcohol than Mead did become known as the honeymoon. Lost it's meaning nowadays though.
Thank god you cleared that up.

Thank god you cleared that up.
On my honey moon I was planning to get drunk on mead, make love to my wife in a bath of honey before sticking my bare arse out of the hotel window for the world to see.
Ill sleep sounder in my bed now and its all thanks to you. Cheers

Agriculture is thought to be about 10,000 years old, originating in the Near East. It took a while for the first two wheats, Einkorn and Emmer, to make it as far as Egypt. In other words, growing wheat is not really that old a thing... not compared to human existance. Whereas using honey, including mead making, is thought to have first been done by the hunter-gatherers, before anyone had heard of farming. Indeed, honey gathering and mead making is still practiced by hunter-gatherers today.

Amerindians in the amazon basin, bushmen in South Africa and possibly some Aborigonies in Oz. The amerindians suppliment their diet with small scale, slash and burn agriculture, but the Bushmen live in desert mainly so they are still h/g's.
