Hi!

As the author of the http://www.bbc.co.uk/dna/h2g2/alabaster/A471188 Myst - the Computer Game entry (Yes, I lost everything in the last switch--including my name!), I congragulate you on a well-written article, Though I'm a little diappointed that you felt that the ending was such a let-down. Fans of Cyan World's games have come to expect deeply poigniant endings that are deeply ingrained in the story rather than whiz-bang happy-happy flashy-flashy. The Myst series of games are enjoyable in gameplay, but their true merit shines in their storylines; you are really only playing half the game if you aren't paying attention to the drama going on in the background. This is a large part of why Myst attracted so many non-gamer female fans back in the day, and female gamers remain a large part of their fan base.

Gnomon - time to move on

Good point! But even within the storyline, the ending was disappointing in that, although you succeeded in saving the people, you didn't save the world.
