A Conversation for Hashing

We saw some of these hashing marks when we were on Dartmoor recently. I have to admit to being a bit dubious about them, as sawdust takes a very long time to rot and it's hard not to see it as littering.
I suppose it's nice to see it has a point, but would be better to see it cleared up after use!
Very nice entry.

sawdust as trash? i don't see that. Isn't sawdust a natural thing?

It's not natural to leave bits of shaved trees all over the place, no - it takes a long time to decompose. I have the same feelings for people who groom their dogs in public parks and leave that all over the place.

I didn't mention dog 'droppings' and I'll think you'll find I can compare what I like with what I like.

you CAN compare what you like with what you like. Sorry, i read into your remark. I saw dog, park, and thought of dog droppings.
Perhaps i just have a different perspective on the sawdust being left, as i live in Canada, and our parks are perhaps less groomed and more natural. I don't think i'd notice piles of sawdust in a park.
didn't mean to offend.

No problem - I know both sawdust and dog hair are just my pet peeves.

lostmonalisa Posted Jul 30, 2008
my pet peeve is people who choose to encase their dog droppings in a plastic bag, and then drop said plastic bag somewhere other than the trash. If you're just going to drop it, just leave the poo, its less offensive.

I agree on that one! Or they leave them hanging in a tree, which is particularly lovely!

that is particularly lovely. I don't get what their point is. They've already done the nasty bit, why not just carry it to the nearest bin..... sigh.
