SPRING BREAK
aarrssee Started conversation Nov 26, 1999
This Spring Break thing is it the same as when a SLINKY breaks when an infant grabs it from an older siblin. Well i thought it was funny saying that, as no one has spoken to me in 14 weeks yes, 14 weeks thats a long time when you are sitting at home with no where to go and all you can think of is where all the nice people have gone. So if i don't get a response i will tell the planning department to start clearing the intergalatic highway in your neck of the galaxy??

Have you tried tracking down where the people are and going to talk to them?
SPRING BREAK
Lupa Mirabilis, Serious Inquisitor Posted Nov 27, 1999
Do you actively enjoy putting people down for no particular reason, or are you just in a bad mood? Just curious.
SPRING BREAK
Blatherskite the Mugwump - Bandwidth Bandit Posted Nov 27, 1999
Excuse me?! Was that directed to me?
SPRING BREAK
Lupa Mirabilis, Serious Inquisitor Posted Nov 27, 1999
Yes, it was. Is it really necessary to be that rude to people who, as far as I can see, haven't done anything to deserve it?
SPRING BREAK
Gwennie Posted Nov 28, 1999
Cor! Have I stumbled into some unpleasantness? I'm off to wipe my feet! (I'm sure Mr. Gargleblaster wasn't intentionally rude... were you?)
SPRING BREAK
Blatherskite the Mugwump - Bandwidth Bandit Posted Nov 28, 1999
Actually, I was intentionally rude, since I think it was incredibly rude of arse to post what he/she did. Imagine how you would react to having an article appear on the homepage, checking to see what people are saying about it, and find nothing but whining. The moment is stolen, the joy has been removed from it.
As far as nobody talking, all you have to do is pop around the site, and you can't help but find something interesting to talk about. Or something completely uninteresting, but funny. You can't just sit around on your homepage and expect people to come to you.

Gwennie Posted Nov 28, 1999
Oops - you really are annoyed, aren't you? I'm sorry if things have annoyed you.
SPRING BREAK
Lupa Mirabilis, Serious Inquisitor Posted Nov 29, 1999
Yes, it's annoying, but that's no excuse to be insulting which is a hell of a lot ruder.
SPRING BREAK
Blatherskite the Mugwump - Bandwidth Bandit Posted Nov 29, 1999
Why don't you just drop it, before I become rude to you?
SPRING BREAK
Ginger The Feisty Posted Nov 29, 1999
I wouldn't GB. The PTB are not happy with people who are intentionally rude on here and generally make people feel unwelcome. Forums are for everyone to contribute to in which ever way they wish and it's just tough luck if you don't like it being on your article!

Hah! I'm made to feel unwelcome on a daily basis by bigoted Brits, but I digress...
I asked once, I'll ask again...drop the f**king subject!
SPRING BREAK
Ginger The Feisty Posted Nov 29, 1999
I doubt it has anything to do with you being an American and has more basis in your personality.
SPRING BREAK
Blatherskite the Mugwump - Bandwidth Bandit Posted Nov 29, 1999
Now who's being insulting? I believe your moral high-ground has just washed away in a flood of pettiness.
SPRING BREAK
Lupa Mirabilis, Serious Inquisitor Posted Nov 30, 1999
You're already being rude to me, so I guess I have no incentive to drop the "f**king" subject. As for those "bigoted" Brits, you don't hear them insulting you personally, do you?...whereas you do that to others rather often. And with more than one person telling you you're being unacceptably rude, maybe it's time for you to listen.
SPRING BREAK
Blatherskite the Mugwump - Bandwidth Bandit Posted Nov 30, 1999
When people make bigoted statements, it offends me. But in response, I insult them personally, rather than their entire people as a whole, because I know that that isn't right. I believe in a surgical strike strategy, cutting down the offenders without harming any innocent bystanders.
But if I upset you so much, there's an easy solution, one which I offered you quit a bit earlier. Just drop it. But you can't, can you? You just have to preach. You see this as some sort of cause to crusade against. Well, guess what. I'm a nice person, until something pisses me off. Then, I become a jerk. I am a jerk to everyone who desperately needs it. I hate stupid people. I hate lazy people. I hate bigoted people. I hate preachy people. And nothing you can say will make me go "yeah, I see your point, suddenly everything makes sense" and turn me into a jellyfish that turns the other cheek.
And let me share another insight with you. You're getting huffy with me for the same reasons I get offensive with others. What I said earlier offended you, and so you want to tell me off. That's no different than what I do. And when you make each of your responses, you are exacerbating what, at first, was a rather small situation. So tell me, how are you any better than me?
SPRING BREAK
Lupa Mirabilis, Serious Inquisitor Posted Nov 30, 1999
The difference between you and me is that you say deliberately hurtful things to people who in all probability are not even aware that they have said anything to offend you--and furthermore, when they make generalizations, are for the most part doing it in fun--whereas I am telling you in the least offensive way I know how, without making ad hominem attacks or using vicious language as you do, that your behavior could very well, and perhaps ought to, get you thrown off of h2g2, and am saying this in response to some of the rudest comments I've ever seen made by anyone. You say that you insult individuals because you know that it isn't right to insult an entire people; however, you don't seem to think that it's wrong to deliberately insult those who haven't deliberately insulted anyone. I find it hard to believe that anyone "desperately needs" to be insulted and cursed at, especially when they haven't knowingly done anything as bad as insulting and cursing at other people. And I don't think telling you to avoid being cruel to those who have _not_ been cruel to you qualifies as telling you to "turn the other cheek" or any such twaddle. You seem to think that everyone who offends you does it deliberately, and that this means you have every right to insult them in terms as bad as you feel like; I'm telling you that while this may be fine and dandy in other places where you spend time, it is not acceptable here.
Of course I'm not trying to persuade you to not be angry or upset; I'm simply letting you know that by continuing to behave in this way, you are not only offending people, but doing so in a way that is against the rules of h2g2, and for that reason you ought to cease expressing your feelings in this particular way, even if you don't cease to feel them. You may call it preaching, but what I am doing is telling you that you're violating the rules of acceptable behavior; on the other hand, if, as you say, it's no different from what you're doing, then it certainly isn't preaching since you can hardly call what you do preaching.
As for your repeated injunctions to drop the subject, I notice that you have not done so yourself. As long as you reply to every post of Gwennie's and mine, you can hardly tell us we're the ones to blame for keeping the conversation going. Furthermore, your telling me to drop the subject "if I upset you so much" would be perfect advice if your behavior upset no one but me. Unfortunately, that isn't the case; you're abusing people all over the place, and it's about time someone pointed out that it's not in keeping with the rules of conduct.
