I actually know someone who fell for one of these and sent a substantial part of his inheritance from his recently dead father to a woman in Africa, despite me and everyone else he knew telling him it was a con. He was so naive that he went for it (he also had a tendency to see himself as a kind of knight in shining armour but that's another story).
When I lived in the UK I routinely passed any such e-mails on to the fraud squad and it's easy for us clever clogs to laugh at the patently ridiculous nature of the tales they tell but spare a thought for the stupid and the innocent. They are out there and they have computers
