Alice, has not only influenced english literature but also provided an analogy to biological processes. What I'm on about is of course the Red Queen hypothosis.
"Now, here, you see, it takes all the running you can do, to keep in the same place." The Red Queen in Through the Looking Glass.
This has been taken as an idea on how sex evolved (oh wow I now get evolution and sex into an Alice forum, it had to happen).
The book setting forth the idea is The Red Queen, by Matt Ridley.

Now to find the biologists to tell me that I'm wrong (and why) smiley - smiley
