Bodhi tree -- the fig tree under which Buddha gained enlightenment.

Hedonism -- He left the hedonism of the palace to become an ascetic.

He taught for 45 years until his death at 80. His last words were --

Impermanent are all created things; Strive on with awareness.

The followers of Buddha trust in their own wisdom. -- Buddhists do not trust in their own wisdom. They follow

The Four Noble Truths -

1. Life is suffering;

2. Suffering is due to attachment;

3. Attachment can be overcome;

4. There is a path for accomplishing this.

and the

The Eightfold Path -

1. Right view.

2. Right aspiration.

These two are referred to as wisdom.

3. Right speech.

4. Right action.

5. Right livelihood.

These three are refered to as morality.

6. Right effort.

7. Right mindfulness.

8. Right concentration.

The last three are known as meditation.

His Zen teachings -- Dogen (1200-1253), was a monk who took Soto Zen to Japan from China . Soto Zen emphasizes mindfulness meditation.
