A Conversation for Vegemite

Vegemite is great!!

I am one of those Australians who was brought up on the stuff, but am now 29 & still love it. It's great on toast, crumpets, cheese scones & fresh bread.

Another Australian Vegemite favourite is on Sao biscuits (big square bland crackers with little holes in them). You make 2 Saos, Vegemite & butter into a sandwich & squeeze the Saos together until the vegemite & butter squeeze through the holes like snakes.

Another good recipe is:
Spread some Vegemite on bread
Spread some tomato sauce over the top
Sprinkle some grated cheese over the top of that
Bake in the oven for a few minutes

Vegemite and cheese is nice, tomato sauce and cheese is nice, but I don't think the Vegemite and tomato sauce would go well.

It doesn't sound like it would go well (and in fact looks horrible) but if you get the quantities right it tastes great.

Occasional Hieroglyphic, wanderer in search of the exoteric

Try vegemite under cheese on toast, then when it's readt spread sweet mango chutney over it. The result is admittedly totally indescribable, but I have yet to find anyone who doesn't like it (after the initial expressions of utter disbelief) who won't have more. Even to the extent of going out and bying the ingredients themselves. Incidentally, if you go to any decent health food store and get some VECON, which is similar but I find somewhat more palatable than Vegemite the results will be better still.
