A Conversation for Coffee

Keeping coffee beans

There is only one thing worse than being Gosho, and that is not being Gosho

Our local store usually sells their coffee beans at $6.99 a pound, but every so often (about four times a year from what I can make out) they sell them for a week at $4.99. If I load up on them when they're on sale (this week smiley - tongueout), how long will they keep in a freezer?

If they're sealed in an airtight container, they should last maybe a couple of months, tops. It all depends on how fussy you are about the taste. Have you considered home-roasting? Green beans cost a lot less
(About $5 for a pound of very high-quality single-estate) and last a year or so without freezing. smiley - coffee

The chemical process of roasting continues virtually unabated after roasting. The only good way to store coffee is in the green bean form. Almost all coffees should be consumed within 10-14 earth days of roasting. Freezing ruins coffee; if you truely know what _good_ coffee is then freeze _good_ coffee, unthaw it the next day and you'll see what I mean.

I plan to have a crack at roasting my own beans someday. Thanks for the info.
