A Conversation for Possums

I was under the impression that possums were not native to north america, but had been brought by colonists. Rge early settlers were unsure of what sort of hunting the new world offered, so they brought possums with them because they reproduce quickly and would thus assure plenty of game. Don't remember where I heard this, so I'll cheerfully admit it could be totally wrong. Kind of an interesting story though, no?
