once again i was the last to know that our dear friend Douglas had passed away. i discovered this when "Salmon of Doubt" finally made it to frankfurt (almost exactly one year later). this was a sudden blow and at first i just stood there in the bookstore holding the last book left on the shelf and feeling very guilty. where was i when this happened? this worries me because i get the distinct impression that if i were to die i would be the last to know.
