We always keep spuds in their brown paper bags in the veg rack, the veg rack in the (cool) pantry or in the (large) fridge, and the carrots also in a bag. So no, the veg rack should not be banned. Not least because old veg racks are great for holding engine and gearbox parts during tricky rebuilding.

Best place for them I would say - in the garage, filled with engine parts.

Only thing is, the smaller ball bearings tend to fall down the gaps.

How about putting a piece of card or paper on it's shelves - beats being on hands and knees seaching for that pesky rolling artist.

What about putting the vegrack in the garden - with a few well placed pots with ivy or other climbing plants - it could make quite a display.

Hmmm. Considers carefully.

I think it would work best with green ones, but they would need to be the type where the pigment is UV stable.

It looks as if this topic is defunct, judging by the date of the last entry. However, I would like to say that here, in the tropics, Vegie racks are useless and the only place to keep vegies fresh is the fridge. Did you know that green potatoes are poisonous and detremental to health. They should never be eaten green. I think they produce strychnine along with the green colour, but I could still be fuddled from New Year. Does any one know the scientific reason why we shouldn't eat green potatoes?

Very interesting question....

I am not sure - but although the sun is helpful creating green foliage, it seems to turn most root vegetables toxic - although it has to be very green for it to be poisinous enough to harm you - then it may give you a nastey tum for a while.
