A Conversation for Vegetable Racks

Attack Of The Mutant Carrots

Post 1

Some Guy

Your text inspired me to become a better man. It also inspired a topic for my next science project. More so, it inspired me to keep some carrots on a shelf in a kitchen for weeks and them strategicaly place them all over his head.

Loony, you have also inspired me. You have inspired me to build a space shuttle to go to the sun, and plant you in it. Elmer Fudds cap won't save you then. Having more self respect then thou, I will not spit on you. Instead my army of Babel fish will spit on you.

Hi Looney
Don't take too much notice of Some Guy - He is young and new to h2g2. - He'll learn.

Hi Some Guy - Nice to see you again. There is a kinda unwritten rule here on h2g2 - Stop trying to be a Douglas Adams look-a-like. Be yourself or I may have to threaten you with 'Have fun at school again', and you know how much you would like that.

Seriously this version of h2g2 is the earth edition - vogons and the like don't really exist here and you agreed at sign up not to spit. All the same have fun.

Hypocrite. I hope that fish smelled.
Anyway, I am not trying to be Douglas Adams. Sure I make references to his books but can you blame me. Besides, I said I am working on an accurate guide to New York City. And I thought you were against vegetable racks. As much as I would like to kill you I cannot for it will leave a useless link on my page. The only link on my page I might add but when I find the time I will update. As for you, Loony, if you are reading all the limerick forums then I would like you to have the same thing I gave Jonny.

Back in the real world - congratulations on having the entry accepted vegiman

A question - can onions be safely left in a vegi rack which is placed in a dark pantry?

Onions are one of those that can be kept in or out of the fridge - I still think the fridge is the best place away from those fruit flies. You prob. already know that most onions are tied up and kept in the dark and cool until the skins firm up.

Other items not suitable for the fridge are Bananas - Courgettes and Marrows. They are bset kept in a cool but not cold place.

Thanks for congrats Loony - it took a while.

Further to leaving marrows out of the fridge - does this also apply to cucumbers?

Glad You are finding your way around Some Guy
BTW You may not have noticed but there is another person calling themselves Some Guy.

Hi Looney as always.,I had a feeling you would ask this one. There is a difference of opinion on this. I personally keep mine in the fridge. The other recommend is keep the thin end in a cup of water and cut from the other, covering with plastic.

Hi Loony & PP

I have never seen round cues but the other day I saw my first round courgette. I thought it was a small melon, Anybody could have mistaken it as such , when I was told it was a round courgette I thought the man was joking. So if there can be round courgettes, why not round cucumbers.

Do they taste any better than the long or dwarf ones? GM

Sweeter - and you don't have the to eat or peel dilemma - the peel tastes much like the rest of the cucumber - again much the same as an apple - vegiman might have another name for them, but here we call them apple cucumbers

No, Apple Cues are the only name I know them by - I have never sold them and only ever seen them once before in this country - They are are yellow in colour rather than green - I never got to taste one but have heard they can be quite juicy.

Hi GM - Round courgettes - I have a farm chasing me to sell them - they are in season now. I think they are too expensive for what they are - a marrow is similar in taste and texture - 4 to 8 times bigger and half the price.
