St John's chapel

Post 1

Mindy

The chapel, by Sir George Gilbert Scott (1860s) has some similarities with the smaller Exeter College chapel in Oxford, and its design was inspired by Pershore Abbey. It has a beautiful painted wooden ceiling showing saints, a marble sanctuary, and a generally dark and mysterious atmosphere. The best time to view it is during evensong.
The stained glass was designed in the 1860s and 70s by Clayton and Bell and takes its theme from the new testament, "with particular reference to St John". For more information contact Mindy, who was mad enough to do a dissertation on the subject.
