A Conversation for Richard Trevithick and the First Railway Locomotive
Trevithick and the first railway locomotive
Philip Hosken Started conversation Jun 9, 2010
I am delighted to read many the letters of recognition for Richard Trevithick as the man who successfully developed the high-pressure steam engine and adapted its use as a railway locomotive. Just two small points about your information concerning the design of his locomotives. I believe the 1801 'Puffin' Devil' had a vertical piston and the 1804 Penydarren locomotive had a horizontal one. There is a lot more to be said about Trevithick and I look forward to reading the comments of other people.
