According to the Times Educational Supplement (03/03/06) there had been a complete stuffed dodo in Eric Ashmole's museum in Oxford. However, this was burned in 1755 by curators under orders to get rid of old, tatty specimens. When they looked for a replacement, they discovered that they'd destroyed the last one in existence
