Ian Williams of Glass House Mountains Queensland writes in today's Weekend Australian Magazine (feedback) that "toads, like rabbits, are now part of the Australian landscape. Their impact on the environment pales into insignificance when compared with mankind's. If the scientists can come up with some sort of biological control, well and good. Until then we should accept that toads, like us, are here to stay".
Anyway, spraying them (the toads) with a dettol solution via one of those plant mistifyer jobs is an effective immobiliser. Probably stings a bit though.
