Besides the exceptional performances by the actors mentioned in this entry, I was especially taken with the performance of Kelly Macdonald. She caught my eye in Trainspotting and I've looked for films that feature her ever since. Her beautifully acted role in Gosford Park as Lady Trentham's naive (but perceptive) young handmaid was entirely different from her savvy vixen in Trainspotting, admirably demonstrating her acting range.

Gosford Park is one of the best films of recent years, and it improves on second viewing.

Thanks very much for your input! Maybe you could check out the "Gosford Park was terrible!" thread, and post any responses there. I have to agree - all of the actors/actresses (as far as I can remember) were excellent, and Kelly Macdonald was outstanding. Acting skills like hers are truly rare. I also have to agree that the film improves on a second viewing - it's good fun to try to pick up on the clues that go largely unnoticed with the first viewing.

Thanks very much for your input, I'm glad you liked the film!

Yup, it's a film that gets better when you watch it again. Like you said in your entry, on the first viewing it's hard to follow the flurry of character introductions and interactions at the beginning of the film. It's even tougher for those, like myself, who have a bit of trouble with English accents. (I'm a Canadian, marooned in the US) Maybe the fact that it's hard to truly appreciate Gosford Park on just one viewing is what led "Mr Christopher" to slag the film. I admit that I only liked it the first time, I didn't love it until I watched it again the next day. But it certainly doesn't deserve to be called terrible! And so I've ridden to your defense in the other posting...

P.S. I forgot to mention, your entry was very well written.
(Except for the omission of any mention of Kelly Macdonald -- shame on you!)
I thought it was an excellent essay. Good job!

Cheers!

(Not bad for a 15 year-old, eh?)

I looked at your personal space before my previous reply and I was actually going to say exactly that, but I didn't want to appear ageist! smiley - winkeye
