I didn't even know that krypton was real. I thought, they invented it for Superman. Yeah, okay, so I'm not much into chemics. smiley - winkeye

So, in reality it's krypton and it's a gas. Okay.

Sorry, I just HAD to make a comment. It's like I **knew** that this would come up. I mean Kryptonite and Superman and Krypton and all that.

I *KNEW* it. Hah! And UNK is just the sound of my hand hitting my forehead.

Well, and now that I - like *sacrificed* myself and got that out of the way, people were free to make scientific comments. smiley - smiley

[Hi Methos! smiley - smiley]

When I was sub-editing this for Hell, I had a look round the net for similar articles (I was trying to see how other people had rendered the formula, and I wasn't sure about the heat capacities until Hell helped me out smiley - ta) - all I could find was stuff about Superman's voice! smiley - biggrinsmiley - laughsmiley - biggrin

Nice to see this on the front page, it's a worthy addition to the guide!

Hi Owl!

You here?

And yep, it's a truly worthy addition to the guide. Not despite but because it makes people like myself realize that no, Superman is not source of krypton.

I just wonder why those people who created Superman chose krypton...

I'm here... smiley - biggrin

Yeah, I've always put the whole thing down to coincidence... but it's a startling one that one of the Noble elements is named and spelled exactly the same way.

I'll have a look...

It probably is and probably because the reason they used that name is totally silly. Like one of those producers or whatever once used krypton to lower his voice and they thought that it would be cool if there Superman had such a low voice, too, and so -

Okay, now I've gone totally smiley - weird, so I'm going to shut up now before I get even weirder.

Trust me. If you try talking to me today you'll know things can get a lot weirder... It's my 21st birthday today and I've had to have an exam this morning, as well as one on Mathematical Game Theory (NASTY STUFF) tomorrow... My head's a mess!

God, and you really had to do an exam? That s**ks. I hope, you had at least a piece of smiley - cake and got some smiley - gift before you had to start learning for tomorrow.

Not that I would know what a Mathematical Game Theory is but it sure sounds nasty. smiley - sadface

I wish you all the best - and not only for that test. smiley - smiley

Have you seen "A Beautiful Mind"? John Nash, the guy the film is about, was the pioneer of Game Theory ... that complicated stuff you see him doing at university, that's Game Theory... I'm not even doing a Maths degree!!

And no, I haven't seen A Beautiful Mind, but I know enough about the movie to be able to guess that Game Theory has to be bloody hard.

And now I just can't help myself - what kind of an degree are you doing then?

smiley - blush Oh, well, of course I could have taken a look there, too. Yeah, well...

And I think although studying computer science may be boring - at least at times, though what kind of subject isn't - what you can do with what you learned is anything but. And of course, you aren't as helpless as some of us - okay, me - when something is wrong with your computer.

Anyone who uses Windows is helpless, I'm afraid, regardless of their technical expertise. It's the way it's designed, to be "simple" - which means that those of us who know what we're doing can't get our hands on the buttons to make it work.

Ah well. I don't use Windows, can you tell? smiley - winkeye

I'm not bored of Computer Science... far from it, I find it fascinating ... but it's not a very good conversation topic! smiley - biggrin

I'm glad that I got you wrong than because some of my friends now regret their choice of subject to study. And that's so not good if you are just this far from graduating. I'm certainly glad that I never had to regret chosing Mongolian studies and German literature.
