It's here.............spring storm season!
"April showers bring May flowers". Only partially true........it also brings severe weather to the Midwest.
There were storms all around us last night--some producing golf ball sized hail!
We escaped the bad stuff (this time) and got a little rain out of the clouds.
Each spring I hold my breath and hope the iris will be allowed to bloom without incident. Most of the time we have blooms. I hope this is one of those times, as the plants are truly loaded with buds. We planted eight new varieties last year and most of those have budded as well. It's almost like Christmas when the iris bloom. Each day I walk around the yard checking the progress of the flowers and each day I discover something new. (Not brand new--it was there last year, but it seems to be new each spring.)
Gotta go! It's time for my stroll around the yard.

I would love to come on the stroll. Right now my garden is a wilderness, but I seem to have aquired a lot of tulips.
Next week I'll do something about it. I really will.
Good luck with you irises, Lady C.
Hail storms
Our weather has moved nicely to pleasant a light presummer.

We'll just have to keep our fingers that this isn't quite all the summer we get... Lovely it is, though

Happy to report that the miniature iris have come and gone--the tall bearded ones are getting ready to put on a show. Savannah Sunset (a peachy orangey one) will be open tomorrow as will Batik--a dark blue and white iris--one of my personal favorites.
We went to town today and bought stakes for them to keep the Kansas wind from destroying them by blowing them down. We have to stake them every year.
Oh, well, at least I am going to have a lot of blooms this year--and most of the new ones are budded!!
I'm soooo excited!

I am taking pictures of each new bloom as it opens. Right now I have about 12 different varieties in bloom ranging in color from lemon yellow to deep gold and pale lavender to a purple that is so deep it's almost black.
In the front yard there is a red one called Play with Fire that is blooming now.
