The Blackbird

Posted Feb 9, 2010

A blackbird watches from his perch

Up in the hawthorn tree,

And as I dig and turn the earth

He waits expectantly.

The sunlight filters through the leaves

And gleams upon his wing,

Yet he remains oblivious

Of the sights and sounds of Spring.

He only sits in silence

As with my spade I toil,

In ardent contemplation

Of a feast upon new soil.

To Mam and Dad

Posted Jan 27, 2010

We know that you are here today,
Standing, arms entwined.
So in love and happy
Faces all unlined.
Watching us, your children
As we come to honour you,
Each with special memories
Of parents good and true.

All six of us together,
The family you made.
Our feet have trodden different paths
But the tie that binds has stayed.
And though our hearts are heavy
As around your grave we crowd,
We feel your love around us
And know we've made you proud.

Goodnight Mam and Dad
Till we meet again.

Dandelions and Daisies.

Posted Jun 8, 2008

Dandelions and Daisies always make me smile,
Although I know that gardeners
View them as a trial.

But Dandelion is cheery as his face reflects the sun,
And blowing Dandelion clocks
Is surreptitious fun.

And pristine little Daisy so charmingly demure,
Attracts the bees and butterflies
With innocent allure.

So when you're in the garden with your trowel and your hoe,
Why not ponder Natures beauty
And leave them room to grow.

One of the 'problems' of living near the coast, is that as soon as Summer arrives we get very popular! Have just waved goodbye to my sister-in-law, niece and nephew, after having them to stay for a week, and although it was lovely to see them, it is sooo lovely to have our home to ourselves again!
