About Me
As you may have guessed from my user name, I'm a British lass living and working in Vancouver, Canada. I came over here in 2002 for my postdoctoral research work; although my Ph.D. (from Glasgow University) was in molecular and cellular biology, my postdoctoral work was in the field of molecular evolution. I changed tack in 2005 and now work for a local Biotech company. I'm no longer in the lab, but I'm still a scientist (geek) at heart and I continue to read a lot of specialist and mainstream science articles, especially in the fields of virology and molecular evolution.
As I've been here for 5 years now, my accent, interests and identity are a wee bit in-betweeny. I support Newcastle United and the England football / rugby teams, but the Vancouver Canucks and Canada when it comes to hockey. Luckily both nations are rubbish at the other's specialities so I am unlikely to ever have to choose an allegiance in the World Cup or Winter Olympics. I love skiing, ocean kayaking and drinking beer, the latter being an internationally recognised hobby. I'm getting married in August 2007 to a Canadian of British heritage, so I will be even more messed up soon...

"The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy is a wholly remarkable book. It has been compiled and recompiled many times and under many different editorships. It contains contributions from countless numbers of travellers and researchers."
