Hello dear visitor.

Greetings! Originally from Brum but have lived and worked in the Gulf since 1987. I find some of the entries fascinating/funny/wired/weird and downright mad!

Some of my favourite music.

Beachboys, Brian Wilson (thanks for finally releasing Smile, it's stupendously brilliant.)Beefheart,Zappa,Van Dyke Parks, Velvet Underground,Buggles, John Cale(just continues to release totally excellent stuff),Nico,Dusty Springfield, Pet Clark,Bonzo Dog Doo Da Band,(and all of Stanshall's 'Rawlinson End' stuff),loads of pop/rock from 50's/60's/70's etc.
Medieval music(Dufay among many others), Renaissance music(Thomas Tallis is another planet!)

Monteverdi (genius), Praetorious, Bach(what an edifice!), Handel(another galaxy!), Purcell(what a killer!),
Vaughan Williams, Beethoven, Couperin, Byrd, Erik Satie(cool, really cool),Benjamin Britten(another total genius), Elgar, Haydn (his 'Creation' is brill),Debussy (calm beauty), Ravel(what an incredible sound painter),Eric Coates (fave at the moment is his'Saxo Rhapsody'),Delius, Chopin,Faure,Vivaldi (recently listening to his sacred vocal music WOW!),Holst(his Planets Suite was the first classical
LP I ever bought on Classics For Pleasure a cheap 60's label, played by the L.A. Philharmonic, conducted by Stokowski),Tchaikovsky,Respighi,
Ella Fitzgerald(note perfect),Billie Holliday, Marianne Faithful(20th Century Blues) which of course lead directly to Noel Coward who IS the Master!, Kraftwerk,(fantastic) and Jimmy Hendrix(still the most amazing
electric guitarist to date), David Bowie, Philip Glass, Stravinski and many others far too numerous to enter here.

So as you can see, I do like music.

Now books? (fiction) Well when I was a kid I read Alice in Wonderland and Through the Looking Glass which made a deep impression upon me and I've loved them ever since. I especially love editions with the Tenniel illustratios. I had to study Chaucer at school and hated it then but have since come to like him very much. George Elliot's Mill on the Floss is another work I've read and enjoyed many times.
Short stories by Noel Coward and Satie, anything by P G Wodehouse and others too numerous to mention now have been read and enjoyed.
