And I can hardly wait...

http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/technology/2966127.stm

Valve have confirmed that Half-Life 2 will be released before the end of the year. They're showing it at E3.

Given that Half-Life is still *best* *game* *ever* in my opinion (even the much-lauded Halo didn't manage to eclipse it) I'm really quite excited about this.

Of course, it *has* to be a disappointment. The first game was such a leap over other games when it came out that a sequel can never hope to recapture that feeling. But if they're able to deliver an experience that's as good as the first (although hopefully without the arsey end levels) then I'll be happy.

Keeping the world safe

The first casualty of war is obviously pop music. MTV have removed "anything performed by the band the B-52s" from their playlist.

I'm glad I wasn't drinking coffee when I read that, or my laptop might need cleaning.

Oscar Night

Well, it'll soon be time for the Oscars. It will be a very interesting show, less for the competition itself (Peter Jackson was robbed!) and more for the way it will (or won't) address the war.

As is usual, Bernadette and I will be staying up to watch, so I might post here occasionally, if there are any other viewers online.

Those were the days

From a 'visual history' of Microsoft Windows, some screenshots of Windows 1.0. I was particularly amused by the comment in the drawing program bottom left (no big version unfortunately): "None of that nice RISC OS font anti aliasing around here!"

Being an old Acorn hand, this made me laugh.

Good Old Michael Moore

Always good to read his take on things.

"As Bill Maher said last week, how bad do you have to suck to lose a popularity contest with Saddam Hussein?"
