I am not a native born Australian, but I have a number of part Aboriginal friends. My eldest daughter's partner has a quarter Aboriginal "blood". Darren is a lovely bloke, good worker, excellent father to his kids.
Australian Governments of all persuasions have treated Aboriginals shamefully, none more so than our current Federal Government, who are serial denialists. Hopefully this report will start to get some drastically needed action.

It is shameful in the extreme, and already some people are suggesting that it is entirely the fault of the Aboriginals themselves...smiley - grr

Terrible state of affairs but sadly not only in Oz. Almost everywhere you look in the world there are examples of this kind of thing going on. It's high time the UN got its fat finger out of its expense account ass (or arse, or asp, whichever you like):

The Pitcairn Islanders were charged and found guilty, so it is possible to prosecute. The island is covered by English laws.

One extreme to the other:
There are over 4,000,000 people violently dead in the Congo wars. And what's the world doing about it?
An ex-policeman in Bayern is to be prosecuted (well, we'll see) , he emüployed 100 Rumanian (EU) slaves for picking strawberries on his farm for the princely wage of €1 per hour. Germany (EU) NOT India!

And if we dare raise our voice we are accused of being "freaky leftoids".

Our government is allowing people to come here on Temporary 457 Visas. These people are mainly Asian, with little language skills, and are placed in menial employment and paid a pittance. What hope have they got of ever becoming valued migrants?

I think I heard on the morning news (where I am currently, in Vienna) that Down Under you've kind of banned the Aboriginies from having any more booze and blue movies. Something to do with the high incidence of incest and child abuse. I think I caught the jist of it.
I was mowing the grass at the time, so I didn't quite take it all in. By the time I'd pricked up my ears the newscaster was telling me about some boring EU business.

Action at last!...http://www.smh.com.au/news/national/im-seizing-control-says-pm/2007/06/21/1182019286734.html

However, our PM has been in denial about this issue for years, and has only acted because it is an election year, and he is light years behind in the opinion polls. Also, in his speech in Parliament he never once mentioned how white employees of mining companies, run by companies like Rio Tinto and BHP Billiton, have also been involved in the abuse. After all, we can't have him upsetting his mates on the Business Council of Australia.
