No. Mainly because I agree on what you're saying at the beginning of your PS. I think h2g2 has deteriorated too. But I find it strangely hard to just cut it, I keep coming back just to check things out.

What you need is a surgeon, or if you can't wait 8 months for the NHS to sort you out then your local butcher may be able to help.
Oh, and as a last resort, Argos do a nice range of kitchen knives in a self sharpening block!
For me I think Ive lost it. I am finding it hard to sustain my interest. Stupid really when you think how diverse H2G2 is.
