Chuck Colson in his book "How Now shall we Live" makes the case for Christianity much better than I ever could.
A few snippets of what he said:
But we as his instruments are called to love people enough to go where they are not only physically but also conceptually.
...We must be men and women who understand that the task is much more than lauching spasmodic crusades to fight in one battle or another. ... We must understand opposing views as total life systems and take our stand in a total life system of equally comprehensive and far reaching power.
When I was ten years old a painting of Christ in Gesemene acted as a catalyst to initiate an relationship with the Christ which has lasted over fifty years. The questions (Why should it matter if I live or die? Why should I act morally? What hope do I have for the future?) are answered by my relationship to him. Major and minor decisions are filtered by his word in the bible and his Soverignty in my life. Without these filters I would have self-destructed long ago.

The portion of that last post beginning "when I was ten" is me speaking not Colson.
Colson accepted Christ in Prison after secular power and humanistic philosophy completely failed him during the watergate crisis.

some answers to the questions in my first post:
(Why should it matter if I live or die? Why should I act morally? What hope do I have for the future?)
Genesis 1:27 says I was created in the image of God
Jeremiah 29:11-13 says God has good plans for his people and can be found by them.
John 1:12 says I have been adopted into the family of god when I received the one he sent. The letters of Paul say we are running the course set for us.
Why should I act morally.
As a member of god's family I should bring honour to his name.
He has said
(Why should it matter if I live or die? Why should I act morally? What hope do I have for the future?
Mic 6:8
8 He has showed you, O man, what is good.
And what does the LORD require of you?
To act justly and to love mercy
and to walk humbly with your God.
In another place he says
Do unto others as you would have them do unto you
and Love the Lord your God with all your heart, and all your soul, and all your mind.
Finally why can I hope when all seems hopeless:
Psalm 23 speaking to God-
Even though I walk
through the valley of the shadow of death,
I will fear no evil,
for you are with me;
your rod and your staff,
they comfort me.
You prepare a table before me
in the presence of my enemies.
You anoint my head with oil;
my cup overflows.
Surely goodness and love will follow me
all the days of my life,
and I will dwell in the house of the LORD
forever.
the Last book of the Bible says I saw the New Jerusalem coming down from Heaven.
then the angel showed me the river of the waters of Life...flowing from the throne of God...On each side of the river stood the tree of life... and the leaves of the tree are for the healing of nations.

Now creation is cracked and broken. Nations rage against nations.
But a new day is on the horizon when all will be made new.
My hope is that in that day My Lord will say well done, good and faithful servant- enter into the joy of your Lord.

I may have been banned from the facebook page of a certain hootoo curator, but when I come to the home of the one who made the world and all its marvels He has accepted me as his friend.
