Just an ordinary man
Born in a 2-up, 2-down terraced house in the East End of London in 1936. Bombed out in the blitz. Moved to Leicestershire via Slough. Returned to London in 1946. Lived in a prefab round hut until 1949. A flat and yet another terraced house before getting married to the sweetest and most beautiful girl in the world, my own Amazing Grace. Another terraced house, but end of terrace and in Ilford, so rather upmarket. Our first house in Snodland, Kent, two sons, better jobs. A move to Belgium for two years as Chief Buyer for a Paper Mill there. Back to the U.K. as a Lecturer in Aylesbury and then Brighton. Now we own a bungalow on a cliff top in Sussex. Five grandchildren. Unfullfilled ambitions to play football for England and run I.C.I. Happy with my lot even if the body is becoming less able, but can't grumble, many of my ex school mates have already crossed The Styx. 45 years married in May 2006 and still besotted with the lady. Looking forward to seeing out my days in reasonable comfort, especially now that we can travel on buses for free.
