A little girl, rather plump, scrambles up the shelves of the walk-in linen cupboard to where are piled winter quilts and spare pillows. Making herself comfortable in the corner, she takes out a penny notebook and sharpened pencil and begins to write.
Several decades later, I'm still writing. Now my view is an estuary in the north of Scotland and my notebook a sleek laptop that I've called Senga (Agnes backwards: if you're Scottish, you'll understand...)
My affections are ruled by a large marmalade boycat and my enthusiasms are many. Music is still the heart and soul of me, followed closely by language. Photography is a new love and one I'm intent on pursuing. There's one or two half finished masterpieces littered around my hard drive and I'm vowing that one might get finished before they hold my memorial service!
The natural, the spiritual and the cerebral are what drive and inspire me. Luckily, also present (I hope!) is a strong streak of Celtic common sense and ability to laugh at the ridiculousness of myself and the world.
Did you know, for example, that one side of the 'V' formation used by flying geese is always at least two geese shorter than the other? When I told this to the village shopkeeper, he shook his head and said "Is that what your life consists of?????". I nodded and retreated to the Sunday newspapers and cappuccino.
