What have you been up to down under there? We have been watching a sci-fi series called 'This is not my life' from New Zealand. You have some very talented and imaginative TV series made down there. That one talks about memories and such.

Hullo Elektra, it's good to hear from you...

What have I been up to?
Slowly (ever so slowly) paddling myself out from the doldrums, that's what.

That comment of yours gave me pause to think ... and compare (...though I may be a long way off, considering my knowledge of such things).
Two countries, roughly of a size, each standing off a continent (though Zealandia itself is a continent in its own right), each attracting considerable numbers of immigrants in its own time, enriching the society as a whole and with a common dominant culture (UK style at the moment ... though here, it's open to change - indeed, is probably in the process).

Is it strange (I don't think so) that many of those/these migrants were/are highly talented people who are there/here because they may not have fitted comfortably in their native settings?

Well, I wish some of their creativity was transferable---here there is really very little in the way of original programming. Everybody just does similar stuff that was successful instead of trying something new.

Anyhow, how is your house rennovations going? And did you get your workshop set up? How is your dog doing and do you have any interesting animal neighbours down there?

Ah, The House / My Little Wooden Hut /The Cottage or just the Cot
It's coming along well, thanks - a lot better than my intentions to keep writing it up.

Workshop - it's in place or rather the empty tin hut is.
I'm waiting now to have it lined. Not for insulation, as that's done, but for dust ... I'll then be able to go round and seal any remaining cracks and crevices so that when opening the door or having a gust of wind, it won't lift too much dust into the room itself (I hope) - and as you'll know, in a wood workshop, dust is THE Enemy.

Doglet - she's the same little darlin' as ever but at the moment, with the (normal sized) house dog (female) and the builder's male dog romping all over the place, she feels left out and wants her scratchums quite often.

Other animal neighbours? a few sheep, a couple of cows and that's about it. There's virtually no woodland locally (several hundred metres around) just the shelter-belt which is clear up to four ft or so high and fenced both sides, while the rest is grazing (for relatively few animals as we've had little rain of late & the place is quite dry).
I think I've seen a rabbit (or hare?) at the far end of Dorty's (10 acre) paddock a few times and have heard tell of a fox but some time ago and that's about all.
Native fauna? Never seen even a Kiwi in the wild.

Come to think about it, your question set me wondering about it all 'cos it does seem a little odd - & I have no answers - I reckon it's a local thing, local farmers etc, 'cos it's not like that all over (I'm sure it isn't)
