Bird Feeders
Posted May 3, 2006
It's time to fill the bird feeders. The s are knocking on the window and threatening me.
The hummingbird feeders are in place, but I haven't seen a hummer yet. The honeysuckle is blooming so they should show up soon.

Moving.........
Posted Apr 29, 2006
They're moving, they're moving!
The neighbors down the alley with the boys with the noisy, obnoxious motor bike are moving away--far, far away. Can you tell I am pleased?
A perfectly lovely family will be moving into the premises shortly.
They have two boys about the right age for my grandsons to play with. These boys are just what the boys need close by. They won't have to cross any streets to get there--just skip right down the alley.

Keeping Up Appearances

Help! I've been Hyacinth'd. I know how Emmett feels!
I was in the supermarket yesterday and happened to be wearing green. A lady I know came up to me and said, "Are we celebrating St. Patrick's Day?" Since my last name sounds Irish, I said, "Sure." This lady then proceeded to sing at me! An Irish song, or so she said. There was a young man in the area stocking shelves and the look on his face was priceless!!!
The kicker? The woman's name was Violet.
True story.

Stormy Weather
Posted Mar 4, 2006
Aargh! Last night, March 3, was the first thunderstorm of the 2006 season. The weather god postured and roared while slinging lightning bolts around. At least he didn't "huff and puff and blow our house in".
Gus, our dog, cried and carried on like a baby. He really hates thunderstorms. This all occurred about 2:30 am, so I'm sure the neighbors really appreciated his goings on.
Now what does this have to do with anything, you may ask. Nothing--it's just another way to complain about needing rain. You see, with all the noise and bluster, we got, maybe, four drops of rain.

Gus
Posted Feb 28, 2006
Santra's experience with her dog has prompted me to put down some thoughts about Gus, our wire haired German pointer.
Gus came to us by accident or maybe by divine intervention. He wandered in to the farm home where our son and daughter in law lived. They were going out of town and called to let us know that he was there. They were going to call Animal Control on Monday morning.
We stopped in to check on the new arrival and the most pitiful thing I have ever seen in my life came crawling out from under their deck. He was skinny--so skinny you could literally see his ribs. He looked like he had been on the road for days. He had cuts and bruises all over, leading us to believe he had been hit by a car. He also was hosting ticks and fleas and other "baddies" we couldn't see.
All I could think of was that "someone had thrown away a perfectly good dog".
We took him home and fed and bathed him. He seemed to know that he belonged with us. Hubby took him to the vet on Monday morning, only to find out that he also was harboring heart worms. The vet advised us to take him home, fatten him up for about ten days and bring him back for treatment. He said the treatment would either cure or kill him.
That was seven years ago. Gus is still with us. He sings, howls, barks, and never growls. He follows Lord C. everywhere he goes and is always underfoot. He can't get close enough to us. He is deathly afraid of thunderstorms, especially if they have a lot of wind in them.
He loves our grandsons and would give his life for them. He is a bit rambunctious though. He pushed the five year old into the pond, trying to get closer to him. We think he may have been trying to get between the boy and some of the bigger kids who were in the yard at the time.
Gus, our .
