The Joys Of Cycle Commuting - 18

Tuesday 11 February
Seat fixed last night, lovely ride in this morning. Some rain so got slightly damp, but not too bad. Finally got front derailleur in right place this lunch time so gears changing smoothly on way home. (I got fed up of having the chain come off when changing up.) No rain on way home.

Weather Report:
The promised rain was very light a.m. and none existent p.m. Warm all day.

The Joys Of Cycle Commuting - 17

Monday 10 February, 2003
Felt a lot fitter on the way in this morning, but my seat was on the cross bar again when I arrived. I tried to adjust it while it was still cool just in case it was loosening as the bits contracted in the cold air. (I tend to do my repairs indoors with a heater on.) Unfortunately I discovered what the real problem was, the threads had stripped on the clamp bolt so it couldn't be tightened properly in any weather. The ride home was real fun, standing room only! Heaven knows what my legs will be like in the morning.

Weather Report.
Almost warm enough to take the long leggings off (I wear shorts underneath, don't panic!) and dry all day.

The Joys Of Cycle Commuting - 16

Friday 7 February
Warmer today, but I am still very slow and hurty. When I got to work this morning I was practically sitting on the cross-bar, my seat post had been gradually sliding down into the seat tube, good job I keep a mobile workshop in one of the panniers.smiley - biggrin

Weather Report:
It had rained at some point 'cause the roads were wet, but it did not rain while I was riding in either direction. Mostly dull and warmer than it has been.

The Joys Of Cycle Commuting - 15

Wednesday 5 February
No cycling on Monday & Tuesday because the jury service was about to finish and I had to be prepared to take all my stuff home. We gave our verdicts on Tuesday so Wednesday was back to work day. First time in ages that I have done a full 11 mile ride in one go. It hurt! I was very slow.

Weather Report:
It was a fairly bright cold dry day. Good biking weather.

Thursday 6 February
Got up early today so that I could put the car battery on charge before I cycled to work. One less car clogging up the streets of Guildford. Sadly I had to put the battery back in when I got home so it's back in action tomorrow. Sorry, but my wife does not see cycling as a valid alternative to anything, she prefers to use the car. The ride in was a bit quicker today, but my legs felt the strain. Definitely slower than expected on the way home. I need to get my weight back down and my fitness level back up and soon!

Weather Report:
Dry and very cold this morning, drizzly (nothing serious)and very cold this evening.

The Joys Of Cycle Commuting - 14

Thursday 30 January
Two Thursdays in the same week, I think one of them must have been a Wednesday smiley - erm. Anyway, no court today so went to work in the car. Sorry about that, but the weather was bad. Took an hour and a half to do a 20 minute trip on the way home and by the sound of it I was one of the lucky ones.

Weather Report:
Loadsa snow and ice and bitter cold wind.

Friday 31 January
Back in court, roads still covered in ice, walked. At least my bike stayed in the warm!

Weather Report:
Still bitter cold, less wind, main roads not too bad, but footpaths extremely icy.
