Who?

Hiya

I see you're from up there, South of the Tyne (just).

I'm down here. South of the Tees (just).

It's all right, I watched Mike Neville's 'Larn yelsel Geordie' so I can usually understand about 60% of what folk up there are talking about. My old TA unit had a detachment up there too. Us in the middle used to entertain ourselves on long night radio watches listening to Newcastle Det trying to communicate with Hull Det. It took hours just to pass a simple message. Like:
(Geordie)Wen yer gannin yem?
(Yorkie)What's that about ham?
(Geordie)Nah. Yem nut ham.
(Yorkie)Are we taking food?
(Geordie - talking posh)Wen are ye gooing 'ome?
(Yorkie)Is this in code or summat?

Those were the days.

Keep smiling smiley - smiley

Who?

I'm a Middlesbrough boy, born & bred (note correct spelling of Middlesbrough), so I'm really a Yorkshireman but I sound Mancurian apparently. Comes from an interesting life in locations away from home. I now live in Redcar (Redker) and on a good day, I can see the highrise in Sunderland and even Tynemouth! I can't remember seeing them when I was little, perhaps the fumes (!) from the steelworks got in the way. Maggie sorted that out though and there is green grass next the Tees. Some people say its just the council painting the stones though.

I presume you've raided my personal page (doesn't everyone?) and found out something about me. I once got invited to a job interview because the interviewer was so interested in what I had done, according to my CV. He didn't think I'd be suitable (too qualified!) but we had a nice talk. Since I had been unemployed for a few years then, I thought he was a cruel git! Still do.

Since this is an open site that anyone can access, I'll spare you the gory details. (Stop moaning!)

Smile and the world smiles with you......:-p

Who?

I've just read your Journal entry.

My boy is five years old, born on Christmas Day. He's got problems with his skull (not serious) which gave us a scare three years ago. He had his tonsils and adonoids out two years ago and pneumonia five months ago. I've stayed with him in hospital and held him while they stuck needles in him (for very good reasons).

They tried twice to put the intravenous needles in but couldn't find a vein (he's JUST like his dad). He doesn't like the sight of blood either. The third time they succeeded. He was very brave, hardly crying when he clung to me, just a tear in his eye. My tears were running down my cheeks!

It's rather tame compared to your experience, but he's our only child (we are a bit too old to have another). Irreplaceable. I hope the good Lord is on our side and he'll grow up big and strong (he's big and soft at the moment). I don't know how I'd cope without him.

Who?

I'm not too worried about him. He was jumping all over his dad a few hours ago. (ouch!) I'm not a worrier but, yes, that time he's away you have to trust the people who are working on him, wish him luck and hope that Fate is on your (and his) side.

Post 20

Who?

Sorry it's taken so long to reply, mid-term depression, don't you know. Add acute fatigue, lack of sleep, too much marking and an enormous pile of useless paperwork and administration) and that's a receipe for a mental breakdown.

Being a Further Education Lecturer, that's par for the course. The only good thing about it is, I'm far too busy to have a mental breakdown, I just haven't got the time. (or is it thyme) Perhaps I have already had the breakdown and just not noticed the difference.

Mmmmm. That's a thought.

PS Boy has stopped jumping on dad's tum and just throws balloons at him. Somethings up!
