Given that you've wondered onto my space, I'm guessing (and maybe hoping a little) that you've seen me somewhere abouts, and thought to yourself, "Hey, that researcher seems kinda interesting/funny/mind-bogglingly dull1, I wonder what their personal space looks like?" or something like that.

Whatever the cause, you're here now, so have a look around. I'll even give you some information about myself. I am:

  • Male (which is unlikely to change)
  • 38 (this is liable to change)
  • In love (which I never want to change)
  • Married, as of the 26th of March 2005 (and that's a whole world of change)
  • The father of Samuel and Benjamin (who seem to change daily)
  • A Christian (which will not change)
  • The person that wrote (or would like see written) these entries.

My email address, for anyone interested, is geggs0121 at gmail dot com (changing the words 'at' and 'dot' for an @ and a . obviously). Though if you aren't interested in my email address, but still want to say hi then you could always shove a posting down the end of this page. Oh, go on. You know you want to.

Stuff I like

Ansible, the online SF fanzine that is read by the people that write SF. I've also written an entry on it.
Celebdaq, the online celebrity trading game. Played by hundreds of thousands daily.
Dave Gorman is one of the funniest people on the planet. I like him so much I started The h2g2 Dave Gorman Appreciation Club, Society, Fannish Thing.
Harry Hill is also terribly, terribly funny. Creator of some of the most surreal bits of televisual entertainment in recent years.
They Might be Giants are always good for a surreal musical moment. Most of the music on Malcolm in the Middle comes from them, you know.
Suzanne Vega still produces some of the most haunting and clever songs around. It's difficult to be both at the same time.
Warren Ellis is one of the, if not the, best comics writer around today. A man who understands that well-written dialogue beats action any day.
I used to like Johnny Vegas but I've kinda gone off him now.

Clubs and things

Somehow, along the way, I seem to have joined a few things. Besides starting The h2g2 Dave Gorman Appreciation Club, Society, Fannish Thing myself2.

I am the Keeper of Fictional Antiquities because I own a paper copy of a reproduction of a globe that previously existed only as an item in a painting. The painting being Hans Holbein's The Ambassadors from 1533. Since only half the globe was visable in the picture, the other half has been effectively 'made up' using as a guide a copy of the globe that Holbein is thought to have been cribing from for the painting, namely Magellan's 1522 globe. It is therefore, a reproduction of an item that has never existed in the real world. A true fictional antiquity.

A police telephone box flies through time and space - the banner image for the Doctor Who group.

Pratchetts Anonymous is the club for anyone that likes the books of Terry Pratchett. I did once hear a rumour that there are some people that don't like his books. I can scarcely belive it. Some people will say anything.

I am also a member of The Farscape Appreciation Society. Farscape is the TV Space Opera series for the discerning nutter. The show is now, sadly, a fading memory; but it was the greatest fun off the planet while it lasted.
