Lawn Gnome Realm

Welcome to Lawn Gnome realm, a safe haven for lawn ornaments everwhere. (And to detail this researcher smiley - smiley)

Me, Lawn Gnome

I am Lawn Gnome, and I am 16. I'm very into science fiction, which led me to The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy and thus, to this site. I also enjoy factual science, as well as fantasy. So don't be surprised to see my comments on the science boards!
I suppose I am a geek of all trades, master of none, because I enjoy many different things. I like the Star Wars RPG, I like video/computer games, I like to draw, I like cartoons (especially anime. Well, the stuff they show on TV here in america. Which some may argue isn't really anime. But that is a different story.) I like TCG/CCGs, I like computers, I like reading, and the list goes on and on. Much like it already has. Oh, and I'm homeschooled.

Well, I know there isn't much here, but more is soon to come, so please visit often. smiley - smiley

I also have recently realized that I love the smiley faces, and from now on I will strive to use them as much as possible.

What I believe

I thought that perhaps I should mention this. If ya take a look at my dragons thread, you'll notice that I mentioned that I am a christian. which I am. I believe that God created everything in existence in six literal days, and rested on the seventh. I believe that he sent his one and only son, whom he loved dearly, down to earth to die as a payment for our sins, and now any human, "good" or "bad", can recieve his forgiveness and live an eternal life in heaven. Ahem. *LG gets off his soapbox*

Really, Really Cool Books

  • The Prydain Chronicles by Lloyd Alexander
Yes, it was a dark day when I learned this was originally a children's book. Anyway, tPC is a series of books, six in all. They told the story of a young man named Taran, an assistant pig-keeper. He was raised by a 375-year-old enchanter named Dallben, with the aid of a bald farmhand named Coll. Through no fault of his own (save perhaps his exceeding willingness to become a great and famous warrior) the young, naive, immature young man gets pulled into a struggle to save his country of Prydain from the evil Arawn, the Dark Lord of Annuvin, all the while maturing and growing older. Obviously there is much more to this story, but I don't want to spoil it for you. smiley - smiley Lloyd Alexander does an exellent job of enticing the reader, so that they get wrapped up in the story. When Taran is angry, you are angry, and when he is happy, you're happy, simple as that. It was a very emotional series, and had very unexpected ending. So READ IT! IT'S GREAT! smiley - grr

  • The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy by Douglas Adams
I figured the book was great enough to go here, whether or not everyone here has read it.

  • the Lord of the Rings, by J.R.R. Tolkien
Truth be told, I haven't actually finished this series yet. But soon, very soon. For those of you who haven't seen it, this is a story of a hobbit named Frodo who is given the quest of ridding Middle-Earth of an object called the One Ring. Basically, it has immense power, and an evil entity named Sauron is hellbent on getting this ring. Again, I tried to stay vague purposely, which makes the story seem hollow, but it isn't at all. Tolkien as a gift for beatiful and/or moving descriptions. He also has a wonderful gift for storytelling, and, although I'll admit it does have it's slower moments, these three books keep you riveted. Good stuff.

  • The Far Side Gallery 2
Yeah, I know, it isn't really a work of fiction. It isn't an example of moving, or gripping, or cool characters. It was insanely, mindblowingly, gut-bustingly, screamingly funny. The funniness was especially funny when there was no words in the comics for four or five strips. You get them the instant you look at them, and when you get one, you move on. Well, you weren't done laughing at the first one by the time you got to the second one, and you'd move on to the third one, and by then you'd be laughing so hard your heart was threatening to spasm and die. So read it, unless you have an unhealthy heart.

This list'll keep getting bigger and bigger, but at the moment I really can't think of any more. smiley - tongueout
