Thanks Elektra, that was a most informative read! But there are dimensions to vision untouched by that article. For instance, many insects can see the polarisation of light ... something we can't even conceive seeing. Then there's ultra-violet and infra-red vision ... butterflies and some birds to the first, and snakes the second. Then there are critters who see more colours than we do ... there's a kind of shrimp that has, if I'm not mistaken, twelve or more different kinds of colour receptors in its eyes!

Wow, I wonder what stuff it eats that it needs that discrimination---of course in the ocean there are occaisionally deadly algae blooms and the like --so maybe it is forewarned. Colour is really interesting in all living beings. Have you ever read books by Dr. Oliver Sachs? He is a really brilliant psychologist and neurologist he is a terrific writer as well. His works are brill and one of his books is on an island somewhere where the entire population lacks colour perception.

Hi again Elektra! No, I haven't read any of his books, but I have heard of Dr. Sacks. I'll see if I can find anything over here ...

I think you'd find his insights very useful. He has prosapagnosia really bad as well---can't tell individuals by their faces like DG.
