Her short stories were my introduction to South Africa. smiley - cool that she got the Nobel Prize for literature.

Hi Elektra! I was sad too to hear of her death. Still, she reached a remarkable age and stayed active pretty much to the end of it! I actually haven't read any of her books! We must have some here in the library though (I mean here at my home, there's a tremendous number of books right here in the study.) But she was a public character over here. R. I. P.

Sadly I only read her short stories which seemed really odd and surreal to me --probably because SA was undergoing such bizarre changes and the whole country was suffering under a weird delusional system---much like the southern mentality in this country do to 300 years of chattel slavery. I'm just understanding this now as DG has been writing American history for the 50s and 60s. An0d between all the cold war crap like the Cuban missile crisis when we were in elementary school. It is a wonder that the world survived. I expect a lot of angels were rushing around putting out fires to keep that from happening.
