Back home (Caistor - not far from the fishing town of Grimsby) the batter had beer in it and the frying was done in pig fat...mmm.
Now (in Dublin - not far from the fishing town of Howth) I have no idea how the fish and chips are made - but they are delicious.
I'll let you know if Beshoff's ever let their recipe slip smiley - winkeye.

Of course, the real question is, where do you stand on the fresh cod or smokie debate?

Smokie...? Like a kipper ..?
No! No smoked fish - salmon, herring etc is best cold - raw except for the smoking. Can't imagine cooking it further.

Deep fried fish - halibut is best - must always be fresh fillets.
And chips - hand cut - and fresh - not machined, never frozen.
