smiley - cross That's just silly.

Well, we're working on it. Car won't start, and I'm in here googling what that computer error message means - cars and computer, bleh - while Elektra trots down to the store and takes a taxi back with lunch. smiley - laugh

Yeah. He's a bit, uh, patriarchal anyway, likes to dictate who sits next to whom at dinner and so on. And he actually shouts at us if we don't do what he wants. Guess who I've decided *not* to have for my PhD supervisor?

Fingers crossed for the car - hopefully it's just a fuse or something simple!

Sounds like a man to avoid when possible. smiley - laugh

Yeah, thanks. I'm going to let it sit there today, and do more research. I can't afford expensive repairs at the moment, but it may j ust be the battery. These online sites are hard to navigate.

Yeah - we're this close to mutiny. smiley - pirate

Don't let it stop you from voting, though... Computers messed up cars, before that, you could fix many things yourself.

smiley - rofl Yeah, we need to get to the polls. After Elektra comes back and we have lunch, we'll try calling the volunteers for a lift.

There's one hotly-contested seat here, and we're looking forward to the end of all these calls, ads, and people knocking on the door. smiley - laugh

Also, one of the knottiest referendum questions I've ever seen.

What do you mean by "knotty" - the way it was worded?

No, the problem itself.

See, the referendum - which passed - was about jury trials. The referendum brings North Carolina into alignment with the other 49 states in allowing defendants to choose either a jury trial or a bench trial (only a judge). Before, the state constitution made jury trials mandatory in felony cases.

Now, at first sight, that's a no-brainer. Defendants should have the choice. But many legal professionals disagreed. For one thing, NC's judiciary is elected, which is not a good thing. Politics and incompetence are not impossible, as Vogons are not above corruption...

There's also the danger now that District Attoneys will threaten defendants with more severe charges, should they insist on their right to an expensive jury trial...

All in all, the outcome was disgusting. The Senate race in this state was the most expensive in history, and in spite of every effort by her supporters, the incumbent lost.
