Just going through my junkmail folder, and I found some spam from your address, sent on 13-July. You're probably aware of it.

It was an address with your name and the number 42. It was the usual sort of spam - not using my real name and asking me to click on a link.

It doesn't necessarily mean your account has been hacked. I often get spam from my own address, and my account has certainly not been hacked.

I believe that the sender can put any sending address they like on a message. Once they know your address, they can put it as their sending address in the hope of making someone think the mail is from a friend.

What I'm wondering is how they knew you were a friend of mine.

Of course all e-mail is basically public, in that it passes through many different devices on its route from me to you, and any one of those can read the text of the e-mail.

That is certainly mysterious - that is a very old email address that I haven't used for years.

Maybe it's pulled from a list?
