First query:

"The tube and mirror together weighed about 12 tons (12,200kg)." 12 tons is 10,886kg, do you want me to change the kg figure to 11,000kg, so it's still approximate?

Good point, GB. I was being over-precise. But my figure of 12,200 is correct, so rephrase it as 12,000kg.

You used American short tons when you should have used British tons. Thankfully, there's only one type of kilogram.

I've changed the spelling to the British "tonnes" each instance, to differentiate.smiley - biro

I've now completed my sub-editing, with your permission I'll return it to the pending pile.smiley - towel

I have been trying to visualise walking along the spiral arm of the galaxy copse. I know you must have walked it and you have pushed this into my top ten of things to do before I go on my trip around the Universe. I assume you've submitted a photo of the observatory and perhaps the telescope itself. Did you also take a photo of the galaxy stone in the copse? smiley - galaxy

Sorry, GB, I didn't see your message until just now (I was on holidays so I must have missed it).

No, tonnes is not correct. Please change it back to tons.

A British ton, known in American English as a long ton, is 2,240 pounds or 1,014 kg.

A tonne, sometimes known as a metric ton, is 1,000 kg.

An America short ton is 2,000 lb or 906kg.

The tons I used in this entry were British tons because that's the measurement that the people concerned used when writing about it. They're not tonnes, they're tons.

The telescope and the observatory are one and the same thing. The telescope is out of doors. There is not building around it, other than the walls that support it. The whole thing is in the open air.

I've submitted a picture of the telescope, but I didn't take a picture of the galaxy stone at the centre of the copse.

The rest of the sub-editing is fine, GB. Once the issue of tons has been sorted, this can be returned.
