Create: endeavours in reading, writing, rhythm, blues, art, photography, and biscuits.

If you have a good idea you could mention it here.

Yea, if we do this again next year (NaJoPoMo) could we try to stick to just adding new posts to a dedicated journal entry for each participant? With so many folks creating new entries every day, old convos are getting buried very deeply, very quickly in the conversation lists.

I've answered your question here, Sol - don't know how to draw your attention to it with all the journals in the conversation lists: F54936?thread=8279056

(Answered you elsewhere TC. Ooooh, soumds exciting!)

Hey Baron. Yes, I think we would review it for next year/ time. I think I'll put up a dedicated page or thread or something at the end of the month and we can brainstorm a few ideas while it's fresh in our minds.

I don’t know if this is the sort of suggestion you may be after but I’ll try it anyway. If it’s not, or I’m in the wrong place then please ignore, and sorry.

I quite like short stories, as well as long ones, and I’ve always been a sucker for a ghost story. One one of my favourites is ‘A Christmas Carol‘ and I’d suggest that perhaps the folk of h2's AWW could come up with some great short stories on a ghostly theme in time for Christmas.

I realise that it might be a bit short notice (mid November) but it may capture a few imaginations. I thought of this last year but there didn’t seem to be the numbers of researchers around and the general mood then didn’t seem (to me) to be receptive.

Please feel free to ignore if you don’t think this is much of an idea.

Deke

It's a great idea!

The only problem is that *whisper* we've got one short story task already brewing for December. *whisper*

I worry if we pile on too many tasks it will overload people.

Can we bookmark this for next year? It's kind of a shame it's so time specific! Am I being too conservative? *gnaws fingernails*

Thanks for thinking of us. Got any other ideas?

Glad that you like the idea.

As you've already got something on the go it would be unproductive to try to run both. It would be good to see it run next year though.

I'll look forward to seeing what the December task is. smiley - ok

Any other ideas? I don't know if this is what you're interested in and you may already know about it, but...
Well, way back when, when h2 entries were going thro' another bad patch, Skankyrich U931109 had what I thought was a really good idea, to form a group of writers committing to a number of entries each month.

He was then the Editor of the Post and introduced it here: A29048989 and set it up here: A28763472 . I was one of those that signed up and managed to keep going for a few months. It eventually foundered because (I think) there wasn't the continuing direction needed and the prevailing mood of h2 was on a downward trend of uncertainty about h2s future prospects.

With the evident general new confidence of the 'new H2' I think it might be worth floating the idea again to form a 'hard core' of writers along similar lines. With factual and non factual entries now (or about to be) eligible for the guide there may be a response.

Just a thought

Now that is a great initiative. It is a little like NaJoPoMo over a longer period of time, but for the Guide. Thank you for bringing it to my attention! There are a number of former writing initiatives that people seem interested in reviving and I think this fits right in.

Hey, you don't want to come and be a volunteer for Create do you? Duties include: coming up with ideas for tasks, helping design tasks, hosting tasks, taking part in tasks and commenting on others' entries for tasks. Not all at the same time.

If not, it's totally fine! I certainly wouldn't want to give the impression that anyone offering a suggestion will get automatically press ganged... *hides club*

How about Updating?

Where members pick any Edited entry from the guide that they want, and have a month to update it and put it into PR (evidently, they couldn't all be looked over in that month, but getting it in would suffice as suceeding)

I see the "recently updated" list move so slowly, and i feel the guide should be as modern as possible, despite my hypocrisy on this front - I decided to move into new areas recently, so once I've finished my uni project, its an update for me

That's a really good idea. In fact, it's a really good idea for a springtime theme (spring clean!), so I think I shall put that on the list for then, if not before. smiley - ok

When do we get an endeavour in biscuits?

I am quite tempted to suggest that people should get extra points for inserting gratuitous biscuits into every entry for every task now.

But failing that...

I would like to suggest two types of ideas

One is a page with poems that need music and a page with music that words can then be written to, then one page that connects the finished songs with music together.

The other is a list of things you can do with a [thing]

for example things you can do with a brick: use it as a paper weight, build a castle, use it as a pet rock, etc...

I was wondering if it would be possible to run a short smiley course for all abilities and tie that into a challange smiley - smiley

I really like the music ideas. We have to et those in somewhere.

Also, the smiley one could be a really interesting one too. I shall consult with the artists.

Thanks guys!

Hi Sol - the Long Dark Evenings idea has not gone down well, but I am happy to continue doing something similar monthly, collecting entries on a subject, drawing attention to them, and encouraging fiction based on the facts therein.

On another track - how about a Scifi challenge? That's what inspired h2g2 after all..
