There is only one thing worse than being Gosho, and that is not being Gosho

I don't see it as anything other than Branson (could be anyone else) doing something inane, and knowing Branson it's probably for publicity which, to me, makes it doubly cringeworthy.

I don't get dressing up. When people here do it for Halloween, and they do it big here for Halloween, I often get asked what I'm going to dress up as. What I really want to say is 'I stopped dressing up when I was about 10 years old, except for the odd drunken fancy dress party, and even those I gave up when I was out of my teens'. What I usually say is 'I don't do Halloween' (which is true) and leave it at that.

Why on earth does Twitter think I'd have any interest in following Victoria Beckham? smiley - facepalm There's nothing in my profile that could possibly point in that direction. I'd follow the Tea Party before I'd follow anyone called Beckham.

Yep. Silly innit. Been that way for a while now. But back in '04 I found a way around it. smiley - winkeye

Anyways, I read that and I read Magic Hat's response. I'm not sure which side is more smiley - facepalm worthy. I can almost see Magic Hat's point when you consider the type face of the 6's and 9's and the inclusion of a smiley - star in each design. And that they're both beers.

It's not as bad as when Starbucks Coffee sued Lone Star Bock brewery in Galveston.

Calling Magic Hat #9 'beer' is a stretch.

Here's another one of the higher-profile trademark stories from last year http://beerpulse.com/2012/11/strange-brew-homebrew-shop-owner-on-tm-dispute-i-dont-think-i-can-handle-this-alone/

At first his side of the argument sounds reasonable, but the comments, which are quite reasonable and intelligent - unusual for a comments section these days - bring it into perspective. Frankly I think they should both be sued by the producers of the film, and by whoever's looking after the royalties for The Grateful Dead and Cream.

I agree.

" First, like it or not, their decision to copy our name is causing confusion."

More like "... their decision to copy the name we stole first is causing confusion."

If I ever start a brewery, I think I'll name it Elsinore. Shakespeare's family can then sue me.

There are two beers brewed locally (by different breweries) whose names are identical to the names of other beers and/or breweries in other parts of the country, and there may be others. I don't know who had the names first but for now all seems quiet.

I love how the Magic Hat comment to this says they started receiving calls from people concerned about the logo similarities!

of COURSE round logos are better for breweries - beermats are round

And of course there's the opposite-side-of-the-color-wheel (not that it makes a difference to people with the stronger forms of color blindness) and super-swirly vs. lack of swirls.
