Exactly, although tourists are often pretty easy to spot. Bloody awful sign though. Doesn't everyone in business these days have a printer, or know someone who does?

New Rachel Whiteread exhibition http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/entertainment-arts-22109026

And she got a CBE (not to mention more money than I'll see in my entire life) for stuff like this? smiley - facepalm

Reminds me of some of the dreck I often saw at the photo lab I worked at when we would make slide duplicates of upcoming exhibits for a few of the local galleries. One fellow just made arrangements of trash he found on the streets. Not even artistically designed arrangements either. One day I saw a series of 'sculptures' that, odd as they were, at least looked like some effort was put into their creation. They were basically amorphous, flesh colored animal sculptures dressed in cheap beads and lingerie. Then I actually found a review of the exhibit and learned that the 'sculptures' were purchased from a taxidermy supplier. smiley - facepalm

On another note, Kate Bush also recently received a CBE. smiley - biggrin

To say that a wry smile graces my lips when I hear another story of a modern art exhibit being swept away by a cleaner who literally thought it was rubbish (which, figuratively, it usually is) is like saying the universe is a bit roomy.

Yeah, I read about Kate Bush - there was a picture of her with Her Maj on the BBC. Must be the first time she's been seen in public for ages smiley - wow

I think the best way to describe this one is by calling it a 'Born in the USA' moment.

"The 1979 song by punk band Notsensibles sold 8,768 copies after a late push from Lady Thatcher fans."

I bought a copy smiley - biggrin Oh no, not this week, in 1979 when I heard John Peel play it. Still got it too. Love that cover smiley - tongueout

I see what you mean.

I've never been a fan of "The Boss". Not for any particular reason, I've just never really liked his music. (Although, Manfred Mann's Earth Band's version of Blinded by the Light is nice.)

But Born in the USA is one I particularly detest because it is so often played with misplaced nationalistic fervor by the God, Guns and [insert conservative theme starting with G here] crowd.

I don't really get Springsteen either but I'd like to have seen him play live in the late 70s/early 80s. I don't think I've seen so much energy in a live performance. I had a friend who went every time Springsteen played in London.

Decades ago, I saw some old classic comic, it could have possibly been Steve Allen, read Bruce Springsteen lyrics as poetry.

It made the point that the Boss is functionally illiterate. smiley - laugh

...[after a quick search]

It was Steve Allen. I couldn't find the specific clip, but here's a similar one.

oh he does a great show, and I don't think that he's functionally illiterate either. The River is a great song. Tragic.

And live? oh boy. Fab. Except when he did an acoustic version of Born To Run thus depriving himself of my Euros for his subsequent live performances so much did it disappoint me.

Functionally illiterate is too strong of a phrase, but some of his lyrics are nonsensical.

I think you'll find that's the case with most pop/rock lyrics, except for one two notable exceptions such as Tom Waits.

I once heard a rather snobby bunch of highbrow musicians on a BBC quiz show (this bunch as a matter of fact http://www.guardian.co.uk/music/2009/oct/13/opera-classicalmusicandopera ) berate Paul McCartney for the line "And in this ever-changing world in which we live in" from Live and Let Die, when I always heard it as "And in this ever-changing world in which we're living", which is correct grammar if you hold to the principle of not ending a sentence with a preposition. Hoo hah Steve Race, but then everybody always said you were a square smiley - nahnah

Seriously, guys. Is she a looker? because to me she has a crooked, insipid face.

But that be simply because looking at her, having read one or two of her articles in the past, makes me want to make a seriously urgent application of my slapping hand.

It's said that beauty is in the eye of the beholder but I don't find her attractive physically, and if the stuff she writes is an indicator of her character it suggests to me she's that she's not someone I'd like to spend much time around.

There are few people I would call ugly and if I had to classify her looks I would say she has a touch of English Beauty but is not really a looker.

One view from the colonies.
