I heard that story too. Danny Baker (or maybe it was Chris Evans) told it more than once. Old actors never die, they just bask in their own fading glory.

We wouldn't expect you to
You have to have been born in a certain country, and to be of a certain age for that name to mean anything to you.
And here is a (rather terrible) recording of Don and Windsor Davies' finest hour - http://www.geocities.com/Hollywood/Bungalow/9635/Whispering_Grass.html

Ah, you wouldn't have been in this country when Three's Company was on TV. He was starring in a current sitcom though - I've never seen it, but it's called "8 Simple Rules ... For Dating My Teenage Daughter". Considering that it's a sitcom, I can't imagine what they'll do about removing him from the story line, sinc he played the father of the teenage daughter.
His father was Tex Ritter, a Western film star and country musician, but John was an actor with great comedic timing, able to do serious roles as well.

Robert Palmer
Another singer who, like Rod Stewart, began with such promise but sold out to pop music.

At least George Plimpton wasn't still in his 50's - he was 76.
He was primarily a writer. I say primarily, because he also did some acting.

You'll probably reccognise him when you see the picture.
I was amazed by the following line:
"Plimpton, a friend of the Kennedys who helped subdue Sirhan Sirhan after he shot presidential hopeful Robert Kennedy at a Los Angeles hotel in June 1968..."
