Yes, I heard some years ago that the greeting is different in the UK than U.S. and I wondered why ? ...

~ Why do I wish people "Happy Holidays" ~

~ ~ ~ ~ December, 12, 2015 ~ ~
Because from 1 November to 15 January there are approximately
29 holidays observed by
7 of the World's major religions.
And I don't think mine are the
only ones that count.

Vacation Visit to the High Desert ~ ~

Really enjoyed the Farmers Almanac that a friend gave me for the trip ~ I do not think I have ever sat down and really read one through & through .
But since there is not much to do out in the High Desert ~ ~ ~
Since Daughter was having car problems ~ A wonky wheel ~ and needed new brakes ~ And she was going to take it to the mechanic on Friday the 26,
I called her & asked if she wanted me to stay home. ? I did not want to put pressure on her needing to come into Bend to meet at the bus stop.
Believe you me that ride down her 3 miles road, off the main road, half way to Prineville is Bumppy! . . Bumppy ! . .
And she said ,"no", she was fine driving into Bend. When we found out Friday what the problem was~ That girl has a good Guardian Angel!
Then she called back in a little bit later that she went to click on her power and NO POWER!
(And she can not call PGE or Pacific Power. She lives 'off the grid' ~)
That means no lights , no TV, no running water. no flush..
I said "no", I do not mind, knowing She copes with this often just to save power if her meter reads low..
For some reason the burner on her cooking stove still works but not the oven ...
And she has a cute wood stove and acres of Juniper to burn. . ..
She has a 500 gallon cistern of water but with no power, no go..
She buys jugs of drinking water. And with the rain her rain-barrels were were full of water outside.
She was so happy about that.
She has a hughmungus beautiful calico cat. That came by to stay soon after Jeff died. She named her Jessie.
There is plenty of light to read by day. She has a nice lounge chair by the fire, so me and the cat were very happy.
We had a nice walk about with the dog. And there are interesting plants and funny 'moss' on rocks. LOTS OF ROCKS...
The dog is a border collie, (She says she never wants another one) .. in the house he is forever hurdding the cat .
The cat has her place in the kitchen/stove area but the dog is always staring at her waiting for her to move and then run at her.
They have a routine when the cat runs down the hall to use her litter box, He runs after and waits out side the gate on the door.
She waits till he gets tired of waiting and has gone to the living room. He 'hides' under the coffee table or behind a basket of wool and then comes running when he hears her jump over the gate. They both get plenty of exercise ! that's for sure.
Cat has her own exit out to a gated area outside . Cat can jump over if she wants to but dog can not get to her.
They never hurt each other, tho. But cat has to have her 'do not bother me area ' . .. ...
Got to bed very early. Daughter puts out solar light during the day. She has lots of little solar lights and lots of little tea light and candles.
And as evening comes on she is quietly going around to put them here and there.
And your eyes are very adjusted to the low light and some of the solar stay on 'til early morning..
And She was busy knitting pieces to put together for an afghan. She has about 5 balls of different yarns on a hassocks in front of her and knits about 5 pieces at a time lined up on her needles.
She decorates beautifully. It is soft and comfortable. No glass and steel, that's for sure.
The ceiling is slanted so you do not feel boxed in - in a box -
Lots of pictures on the walls. She does have a big loom by the front window. I had never seen it before because it was in a back bedroom before.
But She says she does not consider herself a knitter or a weaver, but a spinner..
She says she has won 2 blue ribbons for her spinning.
That means it is consistent and strong.. Smooth and does not pull apart when you pull on it ..
I felt far away in a little very old cozy Southern French chateau. It is very quiet. No cars, no traffic.
Friday: Went down the bumpy road to take the car to a mechanic in Redmond at 10AM..
What ever was broken ( struts?) he said he would not drive it 5 minutes. And could not take it til next Friday.
And recommended Les Schwab. He has a big,big shop there. ( His daughter sure has a beautiful farm out that way that we as we drove by)
While waiting for car repair we went to a little place, Sassy's and had the BEST hamburger. When you only have one ever 3 months they do taste good.
Angela is right there cooking away, not out of site. Liked her so much. And her tator tots were very light and fluffily not greasy one bit! .. Pretty girl and lovely personality and has great hanging flower baskets and big pots out front. That is why we got to talking to her because of her flowers and we have hours to wait for the car...
So I felt lucky so I bought a Meabucks ticket ~ Did not win ~ Only had 1 number come up! Darn, I wanted Angela to win, also ..
Car bill was $1200 ... and new brakes ... They were turning off the lights and we were the last ones in the shop til about 6PM.
They were very busy ~ lot of people were there ~
And BOY! did the car ever sound better going back home down that bumpy road .. It is very wide and She knows which side is the least bumpy.
You are not likely to meet another car. And of course no one is going very fast, that's for sure.
And when we get about a mile from home there are some campers having a big bonfire!! about 500 ft off the road.
and you know fire is a big worry this time of year out there ! .. Even tho there had been some rain every thing is very dry and that Juniper burns fast.
When we got home and went out side to look at the stars, the Big Dipper and the Milky Way ,
because the stars are very bright out there .. and it should be very, very quiet but but any sound carries and Daughter was mad that we could hear all the noise from the campers a mile away ... No matter where you may roam . .. ...
On the way back home Sunday the Flock & Fiber Festival was great. I wish I would have felt like spending more money, but we need a new roof and house painted and fire insurance is due! ...
The Alpacas are so cute. Some baby lambs were so sweet faces. One brown sheep there was as big as a pony.
The big fat white long hared rabbits were quite ugly! A flat nose, 2 black spots(eyes) sunken in all that fur. You wonder, "What's inside?" ...
They fill up their cage and don't move.. There were a few cute bouncy ones tho. No Llamas there this year, tho.
There is wool of every color hanging and some in big braids every where to touch. so soft. Some of it is very silky.
There was a man there with his raw honey booth. So I got my Buckwheat Honey. A pint for $15.00. It is thick & heavy.
* * * From South-Central Washington's Columbia River Valley.
. . . . . . . Contains: unheated & unfiltered Honey, Pollen, Propolis, & Beeswax.
....... .. . . . . Naturally treated, Chemcial-free Antibiotic-free hives.
Nice web-site:

Sunday nite home, I got 2 items crossed off my bucket list: . . .
My son drove us past the new Apple store. Being nite and all lit up it was heavenly beautiful..
And then on to the biggest book store in US, Powell's. To prowl around. It still has the good old Powell feeling. And the Coffee Shop is still there with everyone reading by big windows I told them not to remodel too much.
Do not make it all spick and span and shinny. That's for the Apple store. ! .
Then we walked up Burnside a couple of blocks and down a cellar door, iron railing steps down to a very tiny bar and the kids had Spanish Coffee and I had a nice fruit punch drink of the day. They had no Green Chartreuse.
Then there was a live band with music through a door from somewhere. We each took a turn and walked through to take a look.
It was not our kind of music, Blue grass, I think it was. But Daughter was happy to hear some live music..
About noon today daughter headed for home. When she called at 3:30, I said, ' Home safe & sound? ', she said, "NO" I am at Sandy.
I said how come? But she did not sound troubled. She laughed, because she spent so much time shopping over at IKEA and the Craft Warehouse over there.
She loves to shop. And she knew that it was about time I would be waiting for her to call home that she was home..
So quiet a week and a good time had by all.... I think that about sums it all up.
. . . Ginger . . .
Oh! I did have an interesting bus companian all the way to Bend. That is rare! But I do not think you want to hear about that. ?
He had a big book about the Crusades and the Muslims. (Crusaders good). (I did not have to ask, he was Catholic)
And I bet he has a brother who is a Jesuit. But the book explains that the Crusades did stop the Muslim advance and gave the Christian world time to advance out of the middle ages.
And I know enough History and religion and did not sit there wide eyed and WOW about what he was saying
so we soon were taking about many other things.
We even had a similar farm experience about chickens for dinner. I said what a chore about plucking the feathers off. But what about the pin feathers?
How did they get them out? I had forgotten. He explained his grandmother lit waded up newspaper and burned them off! ...

This was a lot better than last trip out to Bend when a young girl was on her cell phone most of the time.
! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! !
. . . . . . . . . . . . .. .. smiley - bubbly . .. ...
