About myself

Someone on line commented a few weeks ago that reading my posts is like being run over by a Juggernaut and that prompted some reflections ( see “Who is Casseroleon?”).

My core interest is an approach to history that is summed up in the phrase “We study the Past so that we can live the Present with an eye on the Future” and I retain an old faith that History has a functional value in that respect. But in order to change the direction in which we are going, I believe that we have to change our understanding of the past . And I think that this is very difficult for many reasons. For one thing we lost contact with the thinking of “The Lost Generation” ( 1913-39) and their attempt to address the problems of the twentieth century. But even then it was mostly the work of “Highbrows” like Virginia Woolf that found its way into the public domain, whereas I believe that everyone weighs in the balance of events and that anything may have historical significance.

It has taken more than fifty years to get where I am, and the reader should be warned. Casseroleon came to cook up a new world that can happily contain everyone, to split atoms- the seemingly irreduceable building blocks of reality-, to challenge our existing political and economic systems, to drive us forward with dance rhythms and song, and to help us to fly out of the cuckoos nest.
